About Jon

I’ve been growing my photography knowledge for over 15 years now.  Photography is interesting, because there are two very distinct parts to it – one is vision, and being able to capture a great photograph.  The second is technical – cameras today make it so much easier to take a good photo under most conditions, but it’s only when you know every trivial piece of information about how cameras and lenses work that you can handle any situation and manipulate the camera into doing what you want it to do.

Why photograph people?  That’s easy.  For various reasons I’ve only got about 15 photos of me growing up, and I treasure each of them.  I wish I had thousands of them.  When I’m at a wedding and they run a slideshow of images of the bride and groom when they were kids, I get a lump in my throat, without fail.  Those fleeting moments, captured forever, bring back memories to those who were involved and show a tiny insight into someone’s life to everyone else.  Those photos often give you goosebumps, as you know you’re looking at a second in history that was special and magical to that person.  I’ve always known I want to create those photographs for people, so they can share them with their children and grandchildren, and so they can relive those moments again and again like they were back in that moment.

Why weddings?  They’re amazing.  There are so many moments when you know you’re in the presence of something special and it makes you grin like a kid and feel lucky to be alive.  In some ways weddings are very orchestrated – they typically follow the same outline, the same timeline – and you think you know what’s going to happen.  But really, you know nothing.  Each couple brings their own personality, their own hearts to the wedding day, and there are so many moments that are unique to them.  I love being able to capture those moments for them.

I’m a hopeless romantic.  Hopeless.  I want to make a movie out of your life, but in picture form because you can’t hang movies on walls.  It’s my mission to help people see that the story they live is beautiful.

About Nicole – Creative Genius

| From Jon |

I met Nicole at a wedding I shot in October, 2012, and she was clearly a creative girl.  We joked later in the day about her being my assistant, and then I found out she had a blog.  I read it when I got home that night, and it was amazing – she’s the kind of person whose heart shines through when she writes.  (She won’t self promote, so here it is.  Seriously, go read it.)  Between Nicole’s talent with words and her creative style, I knew I needed her on my team – so we got together for coffee and talked about what she’d like to do.  I was thrilled for her to join as a blogger – she’s in the middle of planning her wedding, so she’ll have tons of great advice for you – and as a stylist.  Her ability to create and give wardrobe advice is incredible, and she’ll be excited to help any of you!

Hi, my name is Nicole and I’m the newest member of Jon Sharman Photography. You probably won’t see me with a camera in my hand very often, but you might just catch me carrying around my favorite Target journal and a set of Sharpie pens. I’m a writer at heart! As a blogger for Jon Sharman Photography, a lot of what you read here will be my words. I have a love of pretty pictures but an even greater love for the stories of the people in them. The posts you will read in this space will be about stories. Your stories. The stories about how you met your fiancé, how the question was popped, what made your wedding day uniquely you, and why you are still in love after one year, five years, or ten years of marriage. This is where your photos, taken and perfected by Jon, will come to life. Before we go any further, here are the things you should know about me:

  • My Keurig is my best friend. We meet at least a few times a day.
  • Sharing the love of Christ is my favorite. And my “every word is highlighted or underlined” bible is my second favorite.
  • I’m planning my dream wedding to my dream groom and it is so much fun!
  • Leopard loafers are my wardrobe staple.
  • I’m the Netflix queen. There is no one in the world that can watch a Grey’s Anatomy season as quickly as I can!
  • I have a love affair with words. I’ll read anything and everything you put in front of me.
  • I believe nothing can make a bad day better quite like a puppy dog.

Now that you know a little bit about me, I can’t wait to meet you. You’ve got beautiful stories to be told.
